botox for overactive bladder

 How it works

Botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in Botox, prevents the release of acetylcholine from nerve endings. Acetylcholine is one of the chemicals that causes the muscle cells in the bladder wall to contract. When this chemical is prevented from acting on the muscle cells, the bladder muscle relaxes, allowing the bladder to fill without contracting and causing urinary urgency.
